Montana Douglas Fir grows significantly slower than coastal Douglas Fir due to our long and harsh winters. Montana Fir averages 15 growth rings per inch compared to 3-4 growth rings in coastal Fir. This makes Montana Fir one of the highest strength-to-weight ratios of any wood species in the world. These qualities are what make it lightweight, durable, and resistant to decay.
