Out of the 1600 ft I only found 1 board that was cupped and none that had any bows. I have never seen a pile of pine perfectly flat and straight as this one.

Description

Few materials bring the character of Hickory Hardwood Flooring into a home. Crafted from highly configured live-sawn salvaged wood and pre-finished in striking 7″ wide planks, give every room a floor that looks like nothing else on the block. Hickory ranks among the hardest domestic hardwoods available, standing up to heavy foot traffic, kids, pets, and daily life without losing its edge. Each plank is sustainably sourced and milled for a precise fit, so installation stays clean and the floor holds its integrity for decades. If you want flooring that pairs rugged durability with a look that turns heads, Hickory Hardwood Flooring delivers both.

Frequently Asked Questions

HOW THICK IS THE WEAR LAYER?

Our wide plank Hickory flooring is an impressive 3/4″ overall engineered thickness, consisting of a substantial 1/4″ thick wear layer on top a sturdy 1/2″ plywood base.

WHAT KIND OF FINISH IS USED ON THIS FLOORING?

We use a No-VOC UV-cured Aluminum Oxide clear matte finish.

IS HICKORY FLOORING GOOD FOR A KITCHEN?

Yes. Hickory's tight grain and 1820 Janka rating make it one of the more moisture resistant domestic hardwoods, and the No-VOC UV-cured Aluminum Oxide finish adds another layer of protection against everyday spills. Wipe up water, coffee, or grease right away and it will hold up well in a busy kitchen.

HOW WILL MY ORDER BE SHIPPED?

Most orders will ship via a common carrier like FedEx. This method is designated for large orders shipped factory direct from our facility. Orders will deliver via a box semi truck.
The product will require to be unloaded with a lift gate, fork lift, dock, or hand unload if a fork lift or dock is unavailable.

Once the product leaves Sustainable Lumber Co., it is the carriers responsibility to deliver the product undamaged. In the unlikely event that damage does occur during shipment we recommend that you reject the order and contact us ASAP.
If damages are found after the driver leaves, take detailed clear pictures and notify Sustainable Lumber Co. immediately by phone or email.

WHAT IS ENGINEERED FLOORING?

Engineered floors, like our rustic Hickory engineered hardwood flooring, consist of multiple wood sheets bonded together. This cross ply construction arranges the layers in opposing directions to enhance stability, effectively protecting against moisture issues.
The unique arrangement allows the planks to expand and contract in such a way that limits cupping and crowning when exposed to varying humidity levels. Thanks to their versatile design, engineered floors can be installed anywhere in the home such as the basement to directly on concrete slabs.

WHAT ARE LIVE-SAWN PLANKS?

Live-sawn Hickory flooring is cut straight through the log's diameter, an efficient method that creates rich grain variation and minimal waste.

Each plank features natural mineral streaks, sound knots, and unique color variation. Voids are epoxy-filled, tongue and groove is milled on all four sides, and boards are graded to 99% usable specifications, then pre-finished with a no-VOC, UV-cured Aluminum Oxide matte finish.

CAN I INSTALL THIS OVER A CONCRETE SLAB OR IN A BASEMENT?

Yes. The cross-ply engineered core handles this well. Unlike solid hardwood, it can be glued or floated directly over concrete and performs well below grade, where humidity and temperature swing more often than upstairs.

HOW DOES HICKORY HOLD UP WITH DOGS, KIDS, AND HEAVY FOOT TRAFFIC?

This is exactly what Hickory is built for. It's one of the hardest domestic flooring species available, and the Aluminum Oxide finish adds scratch resistance on top of that. Keep pet nails trimmed and use felt pads under furniture, and this floor will handle an bustling household for years.

HOW MANY TIMES CAN THIS FLOOR BE REFINISHED?

Our 1/4" wear layer sits on the thicker end for engineered flooring, well beyond the thin 1 to 2mm veneers used on many budget products. The extra material means our Hickory flooring can be refinished multiple times (as many as you'll ever need) over the life of the floor instead of replaced.

IS THIS FLOORING COMPATIBLE WITH RADIANT HEAT?

Generally, yes, for hydronic (water based) radiant systems, since the engineered cross-ply core resists the warping and gapping the wood can experience over a heat source. Keep the surface temperature under 80°F and avoid rapid swings. If you're running electric heat mats, call us at (406) 642-7120 before you order so we can confirm your setup will work.
