1. Elk, deer, and antelope outnumber people in Montana.
2. No other U.S. state has more species of mammals than Montana.
3. Montana has the largest grizzly bear population in the lower 48 states.
4. Flathead Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake in the West—over 200 square miles of water and 185 miles of shoreline.
5. Montana’s rivers and streams feed three oceans: the Pacific, Atlantic, and Hudson Bay.
6. Yellowstone National Park is the largest geyser field on Earth and home to half the world’s active geysers.

7. Triple Divide Peak in Glacier National Park is the only triple divide in the U.S., directing water to three oceans.
8. Glacier National Park is Montana’s most visited location and part of the world’s first International Peace Park.

16. The largest snowflake ever recorded (15 inches wide!) fell during a Montana storm in 1887.
17. Montana recorded a temperature swing of 187 degrees—from 117°F in Medicine Lake (1937) to -70°F in Rogers Pass (1954).
18. On December 14, 1924, in Fairfield, the temperature dropped 84 degrees in 12 hours, from 63°F to -21°F.
