Dan Roberson tells the Daily Inter Lake (http://bit.ly/QmURzT ) that most of the trees blown down in the June 26 storm are in the White Porcupine forest management project.
The proposed salvage is in an area governed by a Grizzly Bear Conservation Agreement that requires a rotational schedule for management activities.
State officials are asking the U.S. Fish and Wildlife for an exception to allow the salvage logging in about 1,930 acres.
Officials hope to begin the salvage in August and continue through October.
